(I don't know if Atonement counts; it was so dark. It's one instance when I actually thought the movie was better than the book!)
Have you read any of Judith Lennox's books? Many are set in that time period.

Loved that one, too! It was a really fast read for me.

I just finished Children and Fire by Ursula Hegi today, very good. I recommend her other books of this series too, Stones from the River, The Visions of Emma Blau and Floating in my Mother's palm.

Default Jolt!

Book by author Phil Cooke. Non-fiction, business and life philosophy. Great book how to break bad habits, let go of baggage and organize to achieve your goals. Very practical, real advice. Not a get rich quick thing or "give us 20 minutes and you will rule the universe". In a nutshell, it's get off your keister and get moving, and take responsibility.

The Solitude of Prime Numbers by Paolo Giordano for book club. It's pretty interesting so far.

I love Ursula Hegi, especially Stones From the River, but didn't care for Salt Dancers.

I didn't even know that slaves were freed from America in 1820!

I will add to this once I've finished, but I am so excited about it that I just had to share.

Have a beautiful day, starting now, everyone.
I will have to give this one a look. I am fascinated with that time period and the issue of slavery, abolition and the Undergound Railroad.

You have a beautiful day too!

I've recently read both of these and they are very good. Of the two, Guernsey was my favorite but they are both good reads.

I just started," The girl with the dragon tatoo". I don't usually read crime books but there was so much buzz about this one I thought I had better check it out. I'm about 60 pages in and it's kept my attention so far.
