I just finished The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce. It was long listed for the Booker prize but I'm not sure why. It was ok but super light and too twee for me.

Now I've started Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian. It's the first I've ever read by him and, a quarter of the way through, I suspect it won't be the last.

Thanks for reporting on that one. I wasn't sure if I wanted to read it, but now I know. "Super light" and "twee" don't work for me.

Just wanted to let y'all know that book 2 in Jason Cronin's trilogy that began with The Passage is scheduled for release on October 16, 2012.

The title is The Twelve. It's already for sale on amazon.com for release on 10/16.

I LOVED Helter Skelter. I've always been fascinated by the Tate-LaBianca murders and the Manson clan. This book's great because Bugliosi was a prosecutor for the trials.

I want to read The People Who Eat Darkness at some point but we have such a small library by me that they don't have it, and so I'll probably wait until it's cheaper on amazon.

I'm reading Jana Riess' Flunking Sainthood: A Year of Breaking the Sabbath, Forgetting to Pray, and Still Loving My Neighbor

I'm not religious, but stayed up all night reading it because it was so funny and thought provoking.

I've been debating pre-ordering. I've never done that before, but I really enjoyed the first book. What to do, what to do.

I've preordered a few times and I've also gotten refunds if the price goes down even after I have bought the book. I've never had a problem with preordering.

However, I have never peordered a book for the Kindle. It may be a while before I do that.

Oh, I was wondering when this would come out! I loved the first one.

Finally got Erik Larson's "In the Garden of Beasts", and it is starting out fine, reads rather like a novel, but is a carefully researched true account. Which I hope will give me an agenda-free account of Hitler's Germany from the non-Jewish perspective of a genuinely thorough historian.

Finished Sarah Smith's "Chasing Shakespeares", which was an enjoyable read, even for me, who had not paid much attention in the past to the "who was Shakespeare" controversy, and I didn't know who to root for, nor, even, always, the full thread of the storyline. But still a good read.
