I want to read more Steinbeck but my local booksellers aren't able to keep much of his work in stock. And what they do have I've already read!
He wrote so many great books but the one I like the best is The Wayward Bus. I have not read it in years but it is my favorite of all his books.

I'll keep an eye out for that one, thanks!

I finished The End of Your Life Book Club earlier today. It's going to stay with me, in a good way, for the rest of my life.

I've started No Easy Day.
It's the story of the US SEALS getting bin Laden.

Ah, yes, Mrs. Kimble. I read that when it came out (2003? 2004?).

How far did you get? When I started Pale Fire, I just didn't read the poem at all. All I read was the footnote section, which I thought was hilarious -- one of my favorite books. What a wonderful satire on academia.

Meanwhile, I'm really enjoying "Henrietta Lacks". Rebecca Skloot has an amazing writer's talent for fleshing out hard facts with feelings for the people hanging on to the tail of the facts.

I ordered it today. It sounds like a good one and since you like it so much I know it must be.

I'm pretty sure that I'm close to bailing on The Price of Salt. I'm 25% in and it's not doing it for me. I keep wishing that I was closer to the end, which means that I have no business continuing with it. It's a short book -- about 225 pages -- so you'd think that I could just plow through, but it's a slog.

Oh, boy. I started (and prematurely finished) Leaving Katya by Paul Greenberg. After the twelfth spelling and/or grammatical error in 40 or so pages, I banged my head against the wall (OK, the couch) and screamed "NO!" (or "NYET!" if I want to stay in character to the book, which I don't!) ... so I, too, left Katya, if that is in fact what happens at the end. At this point, I couldn't care less.

That's 0 for 2 today. I might just cut my losses for the day and try something else tomorrow. We'll see how bored I get tonight. Or! Maybe the Kardashians will be on TV! Ha!
