Afghan women in country really have a custom of being as beautiful as possible for their weddings and other events. Facials, manicures, gorgeous hair and make up are required for this and the Kabul Beauty School was the perfect business to set up in Kabul. Yeah, the women would often come in wearing burqas and leave the same way but they knew they were beautiful.
It's a true story and the gutsy woman (an American if I remember correctly) brought this school to Afghanistan.
I absolutely will read it. Right after The Crazed. In fact, I'll put a Post-It Note in my Kindle pocket as a reminder.

That sounds really interesting. Thanks for sharing! Just put it on my kindle wish list
Finished "The Favoured Child" by Philippa Gregory. I didn't think she could hold up the suspens through this second novel but I almost rushed through the book.
Now I'm into the last of this trilogy "Meridon" and I hope it'll be a pageturner as the last two.
On my kindle I'm currently reading "The Passage" by Justin Cronin. A little bit strange and slow reading but I hope it gets better once the action starts
Oh! I was going to start The Crazed by Ha Jin, but I really should start on Kabul Beauty School instead. If I don't forget -- by the time I'm ready to start reading tonight, I mean -- I might just do that.
PS. Does your Mom like visitors? Because I'm happy to go to Hawaii to see her.
LOL She loves visitors! And I guarantee she will wear out any of her visitors dragging them around the island to see/do all the "must sees." I don't know where that woman gets all of her energy!

Awesome! I'll give her your love when I go hang out with her!
I'm sure you'll finish it soon -- maybe just after I start it tonight -- but I'm going to begin Kabul Beauty School. Everyone has been raving over it, but you pushed me over the edge to start on it.

And I got the book title, and the desire to read it, from everyone on this forum! It definitely seems to be a popular book.
I hope you enjoy it. I don't always enjoy non fiction (I go through phases) but this almost reads like a novel.
Adam Smith - An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations.
It's a very long series and frankly quite boring to read (and I majored in Economics in school!). It almost reads like a contemporary text book. However, there are plenty of great commentaries on economic history of ancient civilizations and contemporary socio-economic development in Europe.
Their Eyes Were Watching God - I read this many years ago and barely remembered anything about it. So I figured I'd read it again. Good story.
