"The Diving Bell and the Butterfly"...Creative, brilliant, moving, even humorous memoir of a man living with shut-in after a car accident. He creates a moving world with the beauty of human imagination. It is a short but captive read.
The Mrs. Murphy mysteries are fun, especially if you like animals. The author is Rita Mae Brown and her "co-author" is her cat Sneaky Pie Brown. Some of the titles are "Murder, She Meowed", "Catch As Cat Can" and "Cat's Eyewitness."
you might also check out books by Steve Berry. I especially enjoyed the Amber Room. Plus, the Sigma Force series by James Rollins is really good. Also, for summer reading, you can't miss with any of the james patterson books. they are definitely quick reads.
Surfacing by Margaret Atwood. It always felt like a summer book to me: a girl and her friends in the late 60s or early 70s going to a cabin in the woods near a lake to look for her father who suddenly disappeared.
If you're looking for fun and fluffy, the Spellman books by Lisa Lutz are great. I also really enjoyed the first several books of the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris. Christopher Moore also has some books that will make you laugh a lot and may make you think some.
Really good fast-paced books that I read recently and couldn't put down:
"Lifeguard" by James Patterson, about a young man who gets fingered for several murders and an art heist, who is on the run from the police and the real culprits.
"The Amber Room" by Steve Berry, about an American couple who get involved in a life and death search for the legendary Amber Room, which disappeared during the Nazi regime's plunder of great artwork across Europe.
"The Rembrandt Affair" by Daniel Silva, about the search for one of Rembrandt's little known paintings, which was stolen from a Jewish family during the Nazi occupation, and the intrigue and cooperation by several international police organizations to retrieve the painting and what it contains.
The Secret History by Donna Tartt. Always adored that novel: it's classy but also a sheer page-turner.
