Loved the Beverly Cleary books....she wrote other things besides Beezus and Ramona. The Mouse and the Motorcycle comes to mind. And, Encycopedia Brown was always on my Scholastic order form....Also have read all the Harry Potter books. Did not have to read The Scarlet Letter in HS. Tried to sludge through it as an adult. Can't remember if I finished it. Did have to read The Jungle, 1984, The Grapes of Wrath, Of Mice and Men, Wuthering Heights and a multitude of others. At some point, I started trying to catch up reading books I thought I should have read including: Uncle Tom's Cabin, Tale of Two Cities, a slew of other Steinbeck books, Pride and Prejudice, Emma.....Have not read GWTW. I should put that on my list. I'm also embarrassed to say, I've never read Anne of Green Gables....I think I wore out the pages of A Little Princess and The Secret Garden though.

We actually read The Scarlet Letter in middle school.

YES! Those book forms you could order books from were bad-ass!!!!!!

Yes, BC wrote all those other great books, but I was just tossing out something I figured everyone else had heard of (especially considering the movie just came out).

They made of movie of Beezus and Ramona? I'm never sure whether that is a good or bad thing....In my mind, Beezus will forever be an awkward looking girl, with white cotton bobby socks that won't stay up, in an era when girls had to wear dresses to school. I'm not ready for her to be modernized.

And yes, some of the books I mentioned were actually read in middle school (although, "back in the day" it was jr. high LOL). I think I read The Jungle in 7th or 8th grade, and 1984 in 9th grade, along with Of Mice and Men....Had to write a 20 page term paper (typed, double spaced, with endnotes) on The Grapes of Wrath....that was definitely HS.

I loved the Scholastic bookclub.

Yeah. The Ramona and Beezus movie was pretty bad.

I'm never really surprised that someone has not read a particular book. What surprises me is the number of people who don't read books at all.

I just love books so much and I guess I want everyone to love them, too.

Well I just wanted to add that I only read one Harry Potter book, and I do think it is outstanding and I do understand why they are so popular. (I am not really sure why I haven't read more than one though

My friends know I am a crazy avid reader who is always looking for selections...I can't believe none of them told me about The Hunger Games. After I read it, they were like, "Oh, you just read it? It's really good, huh?"

I learned about those books here in the book forum and after I read the first one I couldn't wait to get my hands on the others. I was kind of sad when I finished them. I wanted another serving.
