If you like a good dose of tragedy with your romance I'd recommend two classics - Dr Zhivago and Wuthering Heights.

I just though of another excellent recommendation. Sidney Sheldon's Master of the Game is fabulously epic. It was a book written in the 80's, that I would've never picked up, if it hadn't been chosen for my book club. Its a great read, and reminds me that I need to pick up the sequel, Mistress of the Game.

I will find his blog and add it to my list of daily website drop-bys, which seems to get longer... and... longer every day lol. Thanks!

I ordered The Magicians: A Novel by Lev Grossman from Amazon yesterday, on the advice of a friend. Has anyone else tried him?

WUTHERING HEIGHTS by Emily Bronte!!!!

It takes the word Epic to a whole new level, and Katherine and Heatchliff are the most inmortal romance in the history of literature.

Awesome classic. Youll love it.

I would recommend Famine by Liam O'Flaherty. It is set in the west of Ireland during the Great Famine of the 1840's, and it tells the story of three generations of the Kilmartin family against the background of the catastrophic collapse of the traditional rural society.

I was thinking about this last night when i couldn't sleep and I really think "atlas Shrugged" falls into the epic romance category. It is long-sweeping book. Yes it is policitical in nature, but also a great romance. a difficult read though.

The Emma Harte SagaI enjoyed all of them.

Someone mentioned Georgette Heyer - My mom had those and I began reading them in high school. I enjoyed them.

Difficult, indeed. Other writers write in ink, Ayn Rand wrote in cement.

The only one of those I've read is "Mrs. Mike"; I read it some time ago and enjoyed it although it's not one of my top-10

I just ordered "Olivia and Jai".
I keep meaning to read "Katharine" but haven't gotten to it.

Am going to start listening to "Game of Thrones" though obviously it's not a romance. It is epic, though!
I fell in love with "The Far Pavillions" (I've reread maybe a dozen times) and then read O & J - I think you'll love it too..
