I wasn't sure whether to ask this in a technology thread or not. I do not have a smart phone. I have a cheap pay as you go cellphone for emergencies only. I have not kept up with this area of technology.
I use the library and am fine with regular books so have not thought much about e-readers.
The idea of having something available when traveling is something to consider but it hasn't reached the level of me really caring that much.

However - my 87 year old Mother reads a lot and has been complaining that books are getting too heavy. She has a DISH entry level cable package, no wi-fi. She is in an area without cable.

I am wondering - will the Kindle 3G really be that simple? Open the box and free 3G forever? So when I go visit I can just download more books for her through the 3G?

Will she be able to figure it out? (She can do amazing things with her cable remote, unfortunately all of them bad

Yes, the 3G is free - I don't know if it will be "forever" but there's certainly been no rumors of it changing.

As for figuring it out, my elderly mother in law, who has trouble with the TV remote sometimes, uses her Kindle with no problems. She has the "Kindle Keyboard" though, not a touch screen - but I think touch screens are easier to navigate.

Amazon have a 30 day return policy so if she doesn't like it, returning it is an option too.
