Now a geek like ME would enjoy that. I just fear there are too few people like us left, who are interested in the history of books.

Today's kids will be wondering how you squeeze the iPad into the press without breaking it.

Oh gods, I'm the nerd who stands in front of the mediaeval manuscripts display at the museum and drools for hours!

I sometimes really wish I still lived in Oxford. There are so many wonderful literary things I miss about it. But I get my fix when I go home to visit.

I met a woman once who had an MFA in papermaking. She was an expert in ancient methods of making paper, printing techniques, and in binding books with vellum, leather, etc.

Needless to say, she couldn't get a job doing this, and would be forever paying off her student loans, but it sure was cool.

I also love illumination, the hand-painting of designs and illustrations on really old books. Guess you can't get that on an e-reader.

Yep ! I am that nerd too ! The Bodleian is such a great place ( I need to renew my card which has expired , thanks for reminding me actually- I loved taking that Oath in Latin and English the first time as well , it felt quite special ) and their exhibitions are always fabulous. And I love the little shop too with perfect prezzies for book-lovers ! Not too shabby a building either hey ?

Am I making you jealous yet ?

You're right Chil - I do find it interesting - thanks for sharing this!

Tracy - I've started trying my hand at some of the simpler methods of book binding - it is fascinating and fun. Almost equally fun is seeing other people's handy work!
