My only complaint so far (I got mine at Christmas a few weeks ago) is that you have no control over the screensavers. There is a rotating group of screensavers that are pictures of dead "classic" authors, and some cool looking illustrations that look like old book illuminations or engravings. I love the works of the old dead authors, but since none of them were "lookers" I really don't want to look at their pictures. I wish I could delete them and just have the illustrations & engravings.

I also wish Amazon would sell new screensaver packages. I'd gladly pay 10 bucks for 10-20 cool looking screensavers with themes that I like.

I think the people who got the Kindle with ads have ads on their screensavers, which would really p i s s me off.
There is a hack that allows you to customize your screensavers but it's understandable if you don't want to deal with that.

The new Kindle models - the Kindle Touch and "basic" Kindle have new screensavers though, no more dead authors.

Thought I'd mention that I finally have an e-reader! I got mine for free, in a sense. Nook is offering their Simple Touch for free with free shipping-even to Alaska. The catch is you have to sign up for a subscription for 1 year to the NY Times at 15.99 a month. So it would actually cost more over the long term than just buying one outright. As a single mom, though, there was no way I would have rationalized coughing up $100 just for my pleasure. And I don't use credit cards so I am really very happy! I just got it and Barnes & Noble has free Friday books and this weeks offering sounded really good. Now, if I could just figure out how to use it. It's kinda like an itouch.

Well I'm glad you are happy but not sure what you mean about coughing up a 100 bucks when you are shelling out almost a 192 dollars. I guess its worth it if you truly love the NY Times.

I got the Kindle 3G a year ago and love it. It doesn't have all the fancy apps like the Nook and the Kindle Fire, but I have my computer and phone for that stuff. I like that my Kindle is used specifically just to read. I recently bought a light for it to use at night. It's great. Honestly, it's at a really good price now and if you're wanting something that very, very solid for just reading, I'd go with the Kindle 3G based on my own personal usage of it.

Yes, it's not wise financially but I don't have to pay for the $100 all at once, spending that kind of money is difficult in one payment. I guess it's hard to understand or even defend. That is how those rent to own places snag customers-no credit, it's a ripoff but you get the merchandise now.
