If you are at all an dog/animal lover, I would recommend "I am listening with a broken ear" by Vicky Kaseorg.

Maeve Binchey is the author for you. She writes of regular folks in Ireland. The reader gets to know the characters very well. There are many hardships and at the end of all of her books you will be uplifted.

A glass castle - it's a memoir about author dealing with her abnormal parents. I think it's a nice book for little kids who relied too much on their parents but grew out of it. And went to pursue their own dream.

Before I go sleep - I love this book. It's about a woman who lost her memory every night when she goes to sleep. And the only person she can can rely on is her husband. I don't want to give away too much info, but it's definitely a must read for it's storyline and twists.

The Alchemist - It's a heart warming book about struggling to finding oneself.

I would also go along with the Glass Castle, a true story.
