I should mention that she mentioned Water for Elephants and The Time Traveler's Wife when describing the love story with a crazy plot thing. I sent her the links for suggestions from whatshouldireadnext.com, but figured I'd see if anyone here had any good suggestions.
Thanks for the suggestions! I will pass them on. I'm thinking that On Canaan's Side could be a good read for me too. (I believe my sister has The Thorn Birds so at point she'll pass it on to me.)
These are all very funny, totally summer beach reads.
Mr. Perfect or Open Season, Linda Howard
Stephanie Plum series, Janet Evanovich
Start with One for the Money (while ignoring the movie if you've seen it, which was just awful imo) and read through them in order if possible. Stuff happens in each book and will pop up randomly in the following books.) While this isn't precisely a love story between a couple...it's ..um... Just read them lol. Whenever I need to smile, these books do it for me.
Another humorous author is Susan Elizabeth Phillips. Just about all of her titles are goofy and fun romances, and my personal favorite is Nobody's Baby But Mine.
Thank you, thank you!! I once read Susan Elizabeth Phillips on the recommendation of some lady at Savers. I actually enjoyed the book - no clue what one it was as this was about 2 years ago. I never remember to go looking for any of her other ones though. Maybe I should.
I'm not sure I'd recommend the Stephanie Plum series for someone who is looking for something like Water For Elephants or Time Traveller's Wife, both of which are dramas and the Stephanie Plum series is humor. That's not to say someone can't like both - just that if she's looking for drama, Stephanie Plum is NOT it.
Also, maybe Memoirs of a Geisha? I wouldn't call it "crazy" but since it's about a foreign culture/time period, it's a bit "different" and there is a romance, iirc.
I've never read it but The Thirteenth Tale always sounded unusual to me, though it's not romance.
