They told me that there is no way to know if the books that I am going to donate are going to be added to the catalog or sold. And if the books I donate are sold that " please note that we cannot provide information as to the value of your donations"--- WHY don't they just tell people how much the books they donated were sold for???
Do what I did - give them to a homeless shelter. And all your old outdated magazines. I guarantee you they are more appreciated and they are used. They are so happy to get whatever you will give them, and you also get the tax donation form. The manager asked ME how much the value was.

Why would it even matter how much they sold for? It's not like that is going to make a difference in whether you give them to the library - or is it? I know that all books given to my local library go into the used book store and that the highest price I've ever seen on any book there is about $3, which means that someone who wants the book but couldn't afford to buy it retail will have access to it. And that's why I give books to them. I don't need to know how much each book sold for.
We will have a book sale in April at our library. Paperbacks/small sell for a whopping 50 cents and hardcovers and large Paperback for $1... most libraries sell books very cheaply - at least we raise some money to fund programs. If we tried selling them for more, they would just sit on the shelf...

Yes the books will be sold to make funds for the library and with librarys closing every day due to budget cuts , I would think that you would want the books to be sold . at least you are raising funds for the library .
Many people have the mistaken notion that when they donate books to a library that their books are going to end up on the library's shelves. Despite good intentions, it's not how libraries acquire books.
The book sale at my library is next week...I get there 1/2 hour before the doors open!!! like waiting for concert tickets
Our sale.. all hardcovers $1.00..paperback .50.. like Katz's..
We have 2 sales a year and there are several others near by that have sales throughout the year. I end up buying tons.. read most and re-donate them so others can read them, too.
The ongoing book sales I see in libraries have such a tiny collection I don't know why they bother. I'm a bit surprised they're actually able to sell those random books.
