This occurs especially if I am reading nonfiction, but happens with fiction also. I like reading and want to get more to it but my attention span is not that great and I find myself having to re-read several paragraphs over and over again. Once I have read about 15 minutes , I have to stop. Sometimes I can come back to what I am reading and other times I have to wait til the next day.

It's so odd how you can like an activity but have such a limited time that you can stand to do it. Gotta read more because ,generally, successful people are avid readers. I have noticed

I have had to renew a library book 5 times that I have had for almost 4 months. It's only 280 pages. Wish I had better reading speed.

Maybe you're stressing over something else, and you just get too distracted (I do it too sometimes). But if you can't finish a book in a month, maybe you're just not reading books that interest you. Don't torture yourself and finish them if that's the case, go back to the library and find something else.

I have found our local librarians to really know the books there. Tell them what interests you and they might be able to help you find something you can read.

And reading speed often relates to experience. Just keep reading.

Thanks. This is so encouraging. I feel guilty if I can't finish a book sometimes. I will feel like I am missing something but if I am not enjoying the beginning or the middle, then I probably won't enjoy the end , lol.

I can't read either unless it's quantum physics or science....it's just so boring.
I'll get the audio book if I need to.

Don't give up. Try different genres. I can read a western and then jump into a sci-fi/fantasy, then a mystery. Something will grab you. I also read a little at time and then sometimes forget I need to be doing something else.

It could be a matter of your focus or attention. Try turning off your cell, turning off any music, and sit in a room without a computer or television.

But maybe you just aren't picking books that are entertaining or exciting to you, and instead are reading what you feel you "ought" to read. Try a couple books that are fun, easy reads, and see if that makes a difference.

It could be my focus. When I read I usually read Dean Koontz, but this book I was trying to read was an autobiography. I was trying to go with something different this time. I will just move on to something else at this point. Reading should be fun , not tedious.

Let me suggest a book to you to try. I read it in my 50s when my goddaughter was in jr. high. It was on her reading list and I found that I loved it. Now I read books for all ages. Give this one a try:

The Giver by Lois Lowry.

Here is a synopsis from amazon.com:

"The Giver, the 1994 Newbery Medal winner, has become one of the most influential novels of our time. The haunting story centers on twelve-year-old Jonas, who lives in a seemingly ideal, if colorless, world of conformity and contentment. Not until he is given his life assignment as the Receiver of Memory does he begin to understand the dark, complex secrets behind his fragile community."

If you like it then we can move on from there. : )

How are your eyes? Had an eye exam recently or changed your glasses?
My problem is dry eye which affects my eyesight and eyeglasses enormously. I was having alot of trouble reading, which I love, before going to the eye doc. I just wanted to sleep after the first few pages. Maybe this could be your problem? Tired eyes makes me tired all over.
