I have a hard time finding books I can become absorbed in and not find arduous. To give you an idea of my taste, I usually prefer minimalist style and good character development, often with a distinct social/cultural theme. I enjoyed reading less than zero by bret easton ellis although I dislike ellis as a whole. I don't really know what direction to go here so I'd like some input. Thanks.
These may be outside your comfort zone, but heck, go for it. You don't discover new authors or genres until you experiment.
City of Thieves, David Benioff
A coming of age story, taking place in WWII in Leningrad which was under siege by the Germans. Loved this story. (And for those who think ehh... David Benioff is one of the co-producers of Game of Thrones.)
Ender's Game, Orson Scott Card
Also a coming of age, so-to-speak, of a young boy who is a genius in strategy, tactics, and computer games. Oh, and there are aliens coming to destroy earth. (Movie coming out this coming fall.)
