I know this is a toughie! Mine are: To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee
I Know This Much is True Wally Lamb
Pillars of the Earth Ken Follet
The Poisonwood Bible Barbara Kingsolver
Shutter Island Dennis Lehane
Sorry, I HAVE to add 1 The Giver Lois Lowry
Pillars of the Earth is my, hands down, favorite book. I am waiting for cold weather, and a long weekend to read the sequel, out now World Without End.
2.....The Karleen Koen Saga of Alice Verney
3...Gone with the Wind
Gosh, those are my top three, others are all equal.
Martinez, I got the brand spanking new book "World Without End" yesterday for my birthday, and I stayed up till 5:00 am this morning reading it! Its wonderful.
MainStreet, I'm glad you told us what The Color of Water is about. I've seen the title, but didn't have a clue.
I have to add another. I cant believe I forgot about this one:
The House of Sand and Fog

1) Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
2) Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
3) The Inferno by Dante
The other favorites are all tied...I read a lot of Nora Roberts and she is just wonderful so her books are all tied. I read a lot of other authors too and their books are all tied with Nora's. Too many...
My all time favorite book is To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. After that it gets complicated. But I guess I'd put these on the list:
All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett Animal Dreams by Barbara Kingsolver The Hunchback of Notre Dame by Victor Hugo
Those are all books I read and couldn't stop thinking about and wanted everyone else to read. But now I'm feeling disloyal to all the other wonderful books out there.
