NEW YORK (AP) — J.K. Rowling's magical, Midas touch has landed her on the cover of Entertainment Weekly as the magazine's entertainer of the year.

The magazine said the Harry Potter author, who has sold nearly 400 million copies of her boy-wizard series that's been adapted into a megasuccessful movie franchise, deserved props for getting "people to tote around her big, old-fashioned printed-on-paper books as if they were the hottest new entertainment devices on the planet."

Be that as it may, I've only watched the movies and read none of her books.
I *cough,cough* consider myself far too old and sophisticated to read children's books.
Comics and graphic novels are an entirely different matter tho.
But it is a good thing that children want to read her books.

Not all children's literature is actually *cough* children's literature. I would encourage you to pick one of Rowling's books up, especially if you like fantasy, or the old myths and legends, and the like. Her series is truly wonderful. If you've never read A. A. Milne's Winnie-the-Pooh, you're in for a surprise. It was written, I think, for children -- but definitely with the adults, in mind, who might be reading to them, as are Richard Scarry's picture books. I have never laughed so hard as I did at the Rabbit family's preparations in anticipation of company for the holidays. Roald Dahl wrote for both children and adults, and his works like Matilda and George's Marvelous Medicine are written for the child in us adults.

I already read enough comics and watch enough cartoons like Ice Age, Cars, Toy Storyand Shrek to satisfy my *cough, cough* inner child. If I actually had one that is.
When It comes to fantasy I rather read the Dungeons&Dragons (hack& slash) type of fantasy or the *cough* Red Sonja, Xena or Buffy the Vampire Slayer type. I fear Harry Potter doesn't offer me that form of escapism.
I sure miss my old RP-games.

But I confess to never have read Winnie-the-Pooh and such, which even as a child I found too childish. I mean what boy would choose a make believe bear over a real-life superhero like Spiderman?
I guess I have comics to blame for that one. They've got their hooks too deep in me, so I'm beyond redemption.
I've seen the movie Mathilda (with Danny deVito, right?) and liked it. But movies appear to be of a less investment than a book since they, unlike a book, always have some action in a scene.
