Here's some things from the book "the End of a Road" by John Marco Allgro that I hope someone can help me with. I will update the thread when I'm stuck with new things.
1: «'Christianity', we say, is loving our neighbour'; it is the religionist who adds 'because God is love, and demonstrated that by sending his only-begotten son to offer us salvation'.» My question is why does the religionist add that? Is that add a part of the religionists view?
2: «The theologian will reply by saying that the pagan's 'christianity' has been learnt from the precept and example of the better exemplars of the Faith, and whilst acknowledging and deploring the lapses of history, draws a distinction between the ideal to which the Christian aspires and the unrepresentative failures to reach it.» My question here is what is meant by unrepresentative failures ?
Thanks

3: «Some women renounce voluntarily the use of contraceptives because only the fear of unwanted pregnancy or social disgrace will keep them chaste.» How can social disgrace make people renounce contraception in the same way as the fear of unwanted pregnancy? Thanks
