Me too. I read Water for Elephants, and have Boom.

I am going to start three threads and see how it develops. All things with delete, move and merge options are fluid.

I have to tell you, ontheroad, your organizational skills are phenomenal, lol. I don't know how you are doing this but I give you so much credit and I just get the feeling from reading everyone's posts that they/we are going to do everything to keep this fun, educational and entertaining. My fiance is laughing right now because he know's darn well I'm going to end up reading all three of the books selected. I have to be honest, though, being Canadian I don't know much about Tom Brokaw (please don't bash me here), though I have heard of him. Still, researching his book, I think it is still an excellent choice for reading.

Thanks for the nice compliment, Bansidhbabe.

Brokaw is possibly more interesting now than when he was a young broadcaster. In fact, last night he was one of several reporters/journalists interviewed during and after our US primary in Iowa and he sounded sane.

And inasmuch as he wrote about my generation and shared it, too, I am extra keen to read what he has to say.

Talking Could we decide on just one title at a time please? I have a family to take care of!!

Amazon has "Thousand Splendid Suns" for $14.27 new and you would probably have it by Tues. or Wed. If you order $25.00, it is free shipping. So, if we settle that the next read will be "Boom" or "Water for Elephants", ordering it now along with "Thousand..." makes good sense!

Boom" is $17.47 from Amazon and "Water for Elephants" in paperback is $8.37.

I personally do not want to have three books being read simultaneously and discussed simultaneously. There is only so much time available to read each book and I think that many of us will have to skip desired books because of the difficulty of working 2 or 3 into our limited routines.

Just my opinion, but I would like to see this remain fun and not become a quick skimming of 3 books in 2 weeks just to get to discussion time. We have plenty of time to continue the club and I think that it should be comfortable reading, as well as, not exclusive for some - maybe most.

Amazon.com: A Thousand Splendid Suns: Books: Khaled Hosseini

It is all, I hope, about fun!

But a few snags came up, the biggest being the availability of our 1st choice book in the library or its affordability.

So, the suggestion is to have the three threads, and each member can participate in one, two or all three. The threads will remain open, and people can join in at their leisure--no pressure, or none I can anticipate.

One of the few advantages of the internet is we aren't in the same room, or town, and so we can open or not open a thread whenever we want.

Frankly, I was not fearful, but concerned too many signed up members would be left out because of the snag and this seemed like a good alternative.

Well said, OTR. For example, I originally said I would read any book selected, but I would have opted out on the Joe Hill book. I don't do Steven King or Dean Koontz type of horror any more.

As to affordability, some of the older fiction books listed I saw on the internet for a little over a dollar - very affordable. In our lifetimes, we're probably not going to run out of books to read and why I believe having more than one selection is a good idea.

It'll be a pleasure to have you, milliebfit.

We hope to be ready for a discussion on/about February 1. Make some notes.

Happy New Year.
