All those exteriors are useless in characterizing what makes that bookstore exciting and worth mentioning.

I saw a couple of bookstores in there that are an insomniacs dream. I always say "I would be thrilled if a bookstore near me was open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week." We have nearly everything else around us open 24/7 but no bookstores. Oh, and the cherry on top would be if they served a variety of coffee and tea.

Re: 'bookstores'

Unfortunately for bibliophiles they are dying every day. Economics and intellectual curiosity aren't linking up well in our society today. Curious as to what the status of the 'book' will be at the end of the 21st century. By then Bradbury's rumination on the burning of books (Fahrenheit 451) will be a bygone.

I've been in the Strand in NYC. At first I was paralyzed with the awesome selection. Then I moved into action.

It's tragic that bookstores are disappearing. I've spent many a pleasant hour browsing in them and especially love the ones that serve coffee, etc. Used to go to a lot of used bookstores as well - real treasures. The majority of my books are now on my Kindle though and I guess you can't keep bookstores open with the limited reference books or books with photos that can't be on a Kindle. Sigh.

^^This wouldn't compare to the great bookstores in Cida's link but since the original McNally Robinson started in Winnipeg and is a great bookstore, hosting many writers, McNally Jackson, run by the McNally's daughter, and modelled after the store here, in New York City might be worth checking out. McNally Jackson Books

Here is a NYT article on the store. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/13/fa...anted=all&_r=0
