purplesky, I do remember that book ... my gram was a librarian though we had LOTS of childrens books floating around. I will never remember the name.
"Old Black Witch" by Harry and Wendy devlin, illustrations by Wendy. Cutest book ever. Finally back in print.
"The little rabbit who wanted wings" or something like that... cute little book. It was our Mom's so it is quite old.

I think that was a Golden Book called Grandpa Bunny (or at least that is what my sister and I called it). I bet it is the same book!

Thank you Gardener34 and PineTreeLover, it was called Grandpa Bunny. I didn't think it was a Golden Book because I remember the illustration being extraordinary and the book being large, but I must have been mistaken. I will have to search my library or get it on Amazon. Thanks again!

I loved Carbonel, King of the Cats by Barbara Sleigh. It's about a girl who befriends a stray cat and when she holds onto a certain broom, they can talk to each other. As it turns out, he's cat royalty but has to fight a big battle to maintain his kingdom. Carbonel: The King of Cats: Barbara Sleigh, V.H. Drummond: 9781590171264: Amazon.com: Books

I also loved The Time Garden series by Edward Eager, but I don't know if was obscure or not. The Time Garden (Magic series Book 4) - Kindle edition by Edward Eager, N. M. Bodecker. Children Kindle eBooks @ Amazon.com.

There was a Golden Book when I was a little kid called 'Bobby the Dog'. I must have read it every single day. Once I started school there was a book titled 'Gillespie and the Guards' that I just loved.

When I became a father, my wife and I were always adding books to our children's library and I thought about those 2 books from my childhood and was shocked when I was able to buy both on ebay. We've saved all of the books and hopefully will have them for some grandkids one day.

Apparently the title was offensive????
That would be The Story of Little Black Sambo - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Another favorite of mine from early childhood was the 1958 Tuggy the Tugboat, a Wonder Book by Jean Horton Berg.

[One of my very favorite books was called The Wednesday Witch, about a witch who rode a vacuum cleaner. I read it so many times, and wish I'd held on to it for my kids.

Just looking at the photo of it from Amazon brings back so many memories.

The Wednesday Witch: Ruth Chew: 9780590427616: Amazon.com: Books]

Omgosh!! I actually opened this thread thinking about this very book! I had looked for it before, but for some reason didn't have any luck. Thank you for sharing!!

Another one, well there were two and I don't remember the author. "The Mysterious Twins" and a second one but don't remember it's name.

All I remember was it took place in England, and the twin's names were Lois and Lettuce. It was a Christian book, I think. The twins got into a lot of mischief (I now wonder if it was the Mischievous Twins) and one falls into a chalk quarry and is paralyzed.

I don't remember a lot, but somehow they stuck with me.

I read "No Such Thing As a Witch" by Ruth Chew. After perusing all her books on Amazon, they all involve wtiches which I found a little strange, but the books were not scary for kids.

Did you know that there is a biography of the author, Dare Wright? She had a strange, sad life.
