The Harry Potter movies are better than the books because the books are not worth the time.

I have watched 6 movies and read two books for comparison. I was just curious to see what the BIG DEAL was about. I read Sorcerer's Stone and Order of the Phoenix. The movies are funny to tolerable. The stories are not worth the aggravation of reading.

Okay, NOT a movie, but the tv series Vampire Diaries was far superior to the books. The books were GOD AWFUL! The writing was horrible, the characters were awful. I think the WB swooped in and really did a great job with the tv series. I actually like the writing and the characters in the show.

I greatly disagree. I think the only movies in the series that were worth watching were the Prisoner of Azkaban and Goblet of Fire. As for the books, they were incredible. Such imagination and creativity. Her writing was wonderful. She created such an amazing world. I wanted so badly to jump in and become a part of it.

"Shane", an old cowboy movie from the 1950s, which is a classic. The novel just isn't so--evocative.

"All Quiet On the Western Front" (1930) is one powerful film. Although the novel is also a classic, I had watched the film first, and just couldn't get it out of my mind--for better or for worse.

If I can count TV miniseries, "Brideshead Revisted" (1981) was IMO even better than the novel. Superb acting, directing, etc.

"Bladerunner" (1982) is an incredible elaboration on Philip K. Dick's "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?"
