Are there any other fans of Mary Karr? She has written several memoirs about her life growing up in a small Texas town. I discover her when I bought her second book "Sherry" just from the cover picture. It's a great book. I also read her first one, which I guess made her famous. But I found the first book (Liar's Club) to be really dark due to the subject matter of her parents' relationship problems, etc.

The second one takes place after that when they are back together again. It's very funny. And she is so honest. I appreciate hearing what the thoughts of women are like. And it's cool to know that some women have had the kind of thoughts and outlook that she had.

Mary Karr fan right here! (raising hand) I abso loved her first book, The Liar's Club. Couldn't put it down! It rode the wave of the popularity of the memoir in its time. I didn't find Cherry as engaging. True, some authors only have one good book in them, but I would give anything else Karr did a try at least. Maybe get it from a library, then buy it if I liked it. I've been to busy the last couple of years to look at her more recent books. Thanks for the reminder!

I liked Mary Karrs first 2 memoirs, and I read her 3rd, Lit, but didn't find it as engaging as the first two.

Now that I've looked up her books I think I am caught up. I've read part of Lit and gave up on it. I'm so tired of autobiographies of alcoholics and others who manufacture most of their own problems. But I still think the Liars' Club is one of the best books I've ever read and that's saying something.

I just finished Cherry again. It was even better than I remembered. Still like it a lot more than the first. I will probably read her third one next.

I also think it's interesting the way she talks about her religious faith in recent video interviews.
