I am current with the Song of Ice and Fire series (although it has been a while). Loved them. I have also watched all the available episodes of Game of Thrones. Hopefully I will still be alive when George finishes the book series. I am very much looking forward to the new season of Game of Thrones in April.
My question: I see that Mr. Martin has published three prequels to the Song of Ice and Fire story. Are they worth purchasing and reading?
Knight of the Seven Kingdoms you mean? Yes, I quite liked it. Good book, and beautifully illustrated. I actually enjoyed it more than the last couple of Ice and Fire books.
He also has the Tales of Dunk and Egg. I got if from a free share site for my Kindle. It was cute but nothing like GOT. I read all 5000+ pages in like 2 or three weeks. I hardly slept at all. Best series since King's Gunslinger.
It has a link to the blog post where GRRM announces that he isn't going to be done with WW before Season 6. This is where the world of publication and the TV show begin to merge, because the reason why Season 5 ended the way it did may have been tied in to the anticipated publication of WoW.
In GRRM's own words:
Quote:
It will be done when it's done. And it will be as good as I can possibly make it.
Having said all that, I know what the next question will be, because hundreds of you have already asked it of me. Will the show 'spoil' the novels?
Maybe. Yes and no. Look, I never thought the series could possibly catch up with the books, but it has. The show moved faster than I anticipated and I moved more slowly. There were other factors too, but that was the main one. Given where we are, inevitably, there will be certain plot twists and reveals in season six of GAME OF THRONES that have not yet happened in the books. For years my readers have been ahead of the viewers. This year, for some things, the reverse will be true. How you want to handle that... hey, that's up to you.
