I have been working on writings for over a year now and have decided to publish some as ebooks. The first ones I want to work towards publishing are short stories in a specific genre. I had some questions about how certain things work. I have read about where to publish things such as with Amazon or Barnes and Nobles, etc., but how does that work exactly? One thing that I realized I would need to do is have cover art for my books. But how does that work? I may be able to find someone personally that would do it but how does it work on the technical end? Say someone draws up a cover for you. I'm assuming though it will have to be done digitally? Then how does that design get on your ebook to be advertised? What if I can't find someone personally to do a cover for me, where can I find someone to do it? And what about editing? I really want to keep things anonymous (going to be using a pen name) and would love to be able to do everything myself but I just don't know if that's realistic. I also really don't have a budget to work with, that's also why I was hoping to do most of it myself. Are there any other tips someone could give me about self-publishing ebooks that I haven't touched on here?
Sorry if these questions seem amateurish or stupid but I'm really new with all this and just want to go in knowing I have some clue about it. Thanks!

To answer some of your questions...

Cover art: There are stock covers that you can choose from on Amazon. You don't have to do anything except click on the one that you like best.

Editing: While it's best to have your work edited, you don't *have* to have it done. Do your best at editing your own work and then self-publish it.

Cost: Self-publishing on Amazon is free. That said, you only earn pennies for every dollar of sales.

The outlets you're publishing with should be able to help you out with step by step instructions. Amazon's is here: https://kdp.amazon.com/help?topicId=...DDQPP3&ref_=gs
