The first one is a biography: Harper Lee, by Alexis Burling. 84 pages. It details the agonies she went through writing and how she happened to get involved with Truman Capote, mentioning how much work she did on In Cold Blood and how Capote failed to give her credit. He was probably in a snit because she won a Pulitzer Prize and he never did.
The second book is a memoir by William Styron. Up until this one, the only book of his I've read is Sophie's Choice. The memoir is about Styron's descent into a deep depression and gives insight into how the mind works in dealing with such a state, at least how his mind worked. The daughter of a good friend was in a deep depression and killed herself last year. I bought Styron's book for my friend to read in hopes it would help her understand what her daughter was going through.
I think you're talking about Styron's Darkness Visible. One of the two best descriptions of depression from the inside I've ever read.
Absolutely.
