Has anyone read Eckhart Tolle's book "A New Earth"?
Any thoughts?
I was a bit overwhelmed at the beginning of the book, and found myself re-reading some of the pages to be able to "grasp" the meaning. But as I read on, I began to understand, but am still struggling.
Has anyone else had this experience?
yes, a book like this takes more then one reading, but it is life changing if you are ready for such teachings. A little 'easier' read might be along the lines of Depok Chopra or Wayne Dyer. I think Eckharts delivery in audio is like his demeaner in person , very monotone. Or I would suggest his earlier book- "The Power of Now''. Might be clearer for a first time Tolle read.
There is a line towards the end of the book that says if you are not ready to receive its message, then you will have little interest or understanding of its content.
I've read almost all of Depak Choprah's books and felt that I needed to re-read some of the concepts. As far as Tolle's book goes; I want to "get it", it's just not "soaking in" on every page. Maybe you're correct...I may not be ready.
I love this new book New Earth. I have not read any other books by this author but I find him very enlightening. I have never noticed how much my ego is involved in my every day living. How someone can make my moods change in an instant because the person is striking a cord in my own emotions. It is absolutely fascinating. Is anyone taking the Oprah classes on this book.
I really can see putting into practice what he is talking about in everyday life.
But it really is a concious thought process. (or action process in this case)
Stopping ourselves from reacting to others the same old way or trying to
stop acting in the same way individually as we always have, is difficult.
Even thinking about our actions and reactions in a different way,
takes time...
Nothing learned well is done easily or quickly.
I know for myself, if I am having difficulty grasping a concept...it helps to put the book away for awhile (maybe even a month or year),
and pull it out to re-read and try again to understand what the author is trying to convey.
I agree that Chopra and Dyer are good at sharing a message, as are others.

Sounds like maybe this line shoulda been in the intro!!??
I will have to give Tolle's books another try. I know it is worthwhile to read, and his concepts have depth. Do love to listen to Wayne Dyer and have most of his CDs and books. Have seen him on tour several times. Don't care for Deepok too much.
