I remember being overwhelmed while reading Prince of Tides when it first came out.

I never realized how autobiographical some of his novels were.

Yes, I knew he went to The Citadel, so I figured The Lords of Discipline was drawn from that experience. Also South of Broad.

I just found out he died.

The Prince of Tides is one of the very best novels I ever read.
