Btw, you can view all Kindle books which have been reduced to free within the last 24 hours/7 days at ereaderiq.com, and you can narrow it down by genre:

All Freebies (found in the past 24 hours) | eReaderIQ

All Freebies (found in the past 7 days) | eReaderIQ

(I have no association with ereaderiq, just another user)

Amazon has quite a number of books free for their Kindle? device. Can also be read free on the PC.

Google guttenburg or similar has free older books.

You know, local library.

There are several sites that offer free Kindle books for limited periods of time. Some of them are good, some not so much. It's usually up to the author whether and for how long to offer their books for free. Do a search for "free Kindle books". If your reader uses some other format run the book through Calibre to change it.

You can't change the format without striping the DRM.

Use Overdrive and a local library with an ebook collection.

Thanks for the suggestions...most of the sites you all suggested are 95% fiction/romance type of stuff...i'm a non-fiction guy.

The reference librarians should be able to give you websites to go to. Also running a search in Google can bring up new ideas for where to get free ebooks.
