Thumbs up So many interesting books.

Just for the record, I have not yet voted. I still have 2 books to research a little. I do have two that I want to vote for, but want to be certain in my mind that the third I choose isn't just a good book. I want to choose it because it will make for a GREAT discussion.

I will have my vote in before the evening is over, if that is alright with everyone. You have all voted on some wonderful books. I just want to sit down for about 10 days and read through them all!

You know, I just don't like Cormac McCarthy. I've never seen a writer make such a fetish out of gratuitous violence. Does that make him a great writer? I don't think so.

On the other hand, Confederacy of Dunces is indisputably a great book to me.

This thread is about voting for the book club selection not a critique of them this time around. We have a thread somewhere here on The Road, and McCarthy....but thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Everyone has until March 6 to vote...so take your time Gem, but please register a wee note when you have voted. I am rather annoyed with myself that the poll didn't take my instruction for an open poll or I failed to click the correct box.

Smile We seem to be of like minds here!

As I had promised, I finally voted. I feel absolutely drained!! Did we just complete spring house cleaning?

Choosing only a few of these books and knowing that we will ultimately decide on just one title was a very difficult task.

As I read reviews and a brief synopis of each title, I became enamored with each of them. I could not narrow it down to any less than five!

I chose Suite Francaise, Sweetness of the Belly, Love Medicine, The Kite Runner (for obvious reasons), and Five Quarters of the Orange. A couple of these I have read and am anxious to read once again. The other three I will have to purchase and read even if not chosen for discussion.

I think that any one of the titles on our list would make for an excellent group adventure. I see that The Kite Runner is out in front at this point and know that it will evoke a wonderful discussion if it is chosen.

Great job, all!

I forgot to say what I voted for.. the Wall, the Kite runner (which I just started last night, my mom sent me a copy from Germany - so nice to read in german again) and Love Medicine.
Suite Francaise was also a great book, I read it recently...and I have another book by this author, looking forward to reading that one, too!
