In addition to the usual online resources, names withheld to protect the innocent, does anyone know of a good resource for second hand children's books. My daughter kept quite a few of her children's books, and many were rather eclectic or unusual.
She's now looking for a gift copy of Petronella. The originally book was illustrated by Friso Henstra, a 1973 imprint. A newer version, with far less beautiful illustrations was printed in 2000.
Many thanks for this recommendation. I thought I had searched Abes, but apparently didn't and several reasonable priced copies came up--all of which I passed on to my daughter.
Thanks, katzenfreund, both of those were the unnamed regulars. colorado native's suggestion reaped the prize and at a good price. half.com had a copy at nearly $50.00--outrageous I thought for a 4 year old.

They don't have Petronella, but they do specialize in "bringing back" favorite children's books. I ordered a couple copies of two of my favorites from them.

$50! Wow...I don't think I would spend that on a book for a 4 year old. I usually check lots of sites if I am looking for an out of print book and there is no consistent winner as far as price is concerned. A few years ago I worked as a buyer for an independent book store and part of that was locating out of print books for customers. I LOVED that job... unfortunately the store has closed down, couldn't compete with Amazon and the big box stores
I bought "old black witch" the joan and harry devlin classic - which is inexplicably out of print... off ebay. And then bought a second copy (better condition) off there.
Thanks, gardener34, my daughter doesn't do ebay and was relying on a recommendation for a quick buy--a birthday. Abes did the trick.
In the past I have bought art books on ebay, with moderate to reasonable success--several w/more of a mildew smell than I cared for however.
