Well, this quote in not inspiring or a favorite...just a little strange.. It's from the intro of a book I am just starting:
"The reader is forewarned that such confusing statements, which defy any reasonable definition, are in fact the subject of this book."
I have absolutely NO clue where these two came from, but I especially like
The ox is slow, but the Earth is patient.
and
The journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step.
I may not even have quoted them accurately. Sound like tao-ism, or something, but I have always liked the sayings, and find myself repeating them in my head. I think the first is the quote of a Buddhist monk in HighRoad to China, both a book and a movie (starring Tom Selleck).
Trudeyrose, since you brought up an intro to your current book, I think you might enjoy this acknowledgement from Richard Armour, author of It All Started with Columbus:
". . . Nota bene: The author will appreciate assistance in eliminating, in future editions, any accurate dates or undistorted facts that may have insinuated themselves despite the most painstaking research and proofreading. RA"
I could certainly supply some very inaccurate fodder for his history book!
Gem.. LOL!!! My book is "The Roman Empire and its Germanic Peoples"
by Herwig Wolfram.. a translation of the German...Maybe something got lost in the translation!!
I have been known to have the same problem myself, TrudeyRose! I guess we could all use a little on-site translation sometimes!
Is the subject of your book actually a series of confusing, seeminly unreasonable statements? This should be a very educational book, much the same as It All Started with Columbus! If we cannot trust the historian, who can we trust?

No one. All histories are written from the POV of the winners.
Ok not as thought provoking as some of the quotes, but has always been a fave of mine:
Frankly my dear I don't give a dam.
Rhett Butler, Gone With The Wind
Margaret Mitchell
