jtur88, are you out there?
I miss him too. But in most cases 'not a member' means the member was banned.

Well I hope that's it. Better than than illness or disability. I love to read his book reviews even though we don't share much of the same interest in books. Hope he reappears.

I've looked for his posts with some specific threads and was surprised he wasn't posting. I hope he's okay too.

I have her on my Book of Face. Not that I've been on there in ages -- I'm on for 4 seconds once every 2 or so weeks and call it done -- but I've seen her on there and she's fine and dandy.

ETA: ACK! You're making me do it. I'm going to log onto that beast called Facebook and message her and tell her to friend you and then I'm going to wash the FB grime off of me.

I'm a Brit and love reading non-fiction books on US history; when on holiday in the US I've always been quite happy to buy random books that look interesting, especially what's best described as 'popular history' e.g. Erik Larson's Devil in the White City. The best that I've read is probably The Worst Hard Time, about the Dust Bowl in the 1930s.

I'd very much like to read a history of the Mississippi River flood of 1927 - any recommendations?

No clue about any books about Mississippi River. Perhaps googling would help. I love Erik Larson his books are amazing. The Creek Done Gone is fiction about a southern family. Hope this helps!

Thanks, Peony321, I may wait until I revisit my Arkansas friends in 2021, and see if I can find something when we visit Mississippi. I realise that it might not be easy to find a physical bookstore by then, but Visitor Centers (e.g. Greenville MS) could have some local books on sale.

I first noticed Devil in the White City in airport bookstores in the US, but didn't decide to buy it until my local bookstore started to stock it. I've since bought Isaac's Storm online, not quite as interesting a story as Devil....
