I have not seen the film, The Kite Runner, either, RDSLOTS. I would like to see how closely the film follows the book.

As I read the book I had a movie skipping through my head. It is a very visual book. Hosseini really has a knack for painting a vivid picture for his reader. But, I will let this wait for the discussion!

My copy of Suite Francaise just arrived at the bookstore today where I had ordered it. Books that I know that I will read again and that I will enjoy passing on to others to read, I like to buy in hard cover. I had a wonderful discount on this order and am anxious to pick it up tomorrow at the store, as well as two children's books.

Never enough time in the day, is there?

Default Well, I'm just

.

I was so flattered to have been selected to receive a $50 gift certificate. As my daughter might say, "s-w-e-e-e-e-e-e-t." I didn't know you can buy books at Overstock? Now we're talking. . .

How do you get picked, by the way?

I have not been able to locate my own personal copy of The Kite Runner, and I enjoy putting little stickies on pages I want to refer to, especially during Book Club discussions. I have one more person to check with, as in, "did I loan you my copy?" I seem to recall someone -- a friend, neighbor -- who was planning on reading it for a book club they belonged to. Oh well. I do have a copy reserved at the library, and I have read it once, but I need a 'refresher.'

I cannot begin to tell you Guys how much I am looking forward to this discussion, especially since I have had no one to talk to about the work. Plus, quite a few of us have read Hosseini's other work now, too, so we may be able to even compare/contrast the two.

I love Hosseini's style, and his use of the Afghanistan country, its people, customs, and the language. The tale of the two boys I found both endearing and heartbreaking, and that's all I will/can/should say for now.

And if any of you had anything to do with my receiving a gift certificate, thank you so much -- from the very bottom of my droopy eyes. C-D has always been just a nice 'gift' in, and of, itself, so this has been like a nice, sweet maraschino cherry sitting atop the whipped cream. Congratulations to you, too, njkate, and previous winners.

They do have books, lots of them. As to how you get picked, it's more or less random. The moderators aren't eligible, and it seems no one can win twice in a row. Otherwise... it's very, very cool! I still have a bit left on my account from the last time, I'll have to find out how long it's good for. I'm moving in a couple weeks and won't have a real address again for about 2 months.

The Administrator made all the picks for the gift certificates. Neither the Sr. Moderators or regular moderators had anything to do with the choices. Moderators are not eligible for the gifts, but the Administrator did thank us at the holidays.

Hope your move goes well, karibear. Moving is among the most stressful events.

Karibear, best of luck on your move!!! Moving is one of the most stressful times in your life. We moved twice last year, once on the last day of March and again on December 28th. It was a stressful year. I am finally starting to get back to normal!
I hope you will be happy in your new home!!!

Hope you can find things after the move, karibear. I'm still looking for stuff, and I've been in this house almost two years now.

When everything's in, shut and lock the doors, and go soak in a nice warm bath. Enjoy the new place!

Katzenfreund, I promised myself that I would only read the first 20 pages of The Wall to feel the tenor of the story and writer. I had to drag myself away after reading the first 30 pages!

It started immediately weaving a wonderful tale for us all. I will not say another word until we are all ready to read, except that you will all enjoy this book!

Thanks, Katz, for bringing this tasty morsel to our table.
