I really appreciate all the responses, and I will read them all! I compiled a list as well, from just asking around, talking to people..etc. Would love any comments. I have these books coming to me, I haven't read any of them yet, but can't wait:

The Alchemist
Infinite Jest
The Fountainhead
Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance
The Tao of Pooh
The Death of Ivan llyich
The curious incident of the dog in the nighttime
Giovanni's Room

The Fountainhead is too dangerous for anyone who is younger than about 26 to read.

Good luck with Infinite Jest. I find it too daunting and have not yet attempted it. Not sure whether I ever will. I know for some people it requires a couple of tries.

I know there is lots of love for Curious Incident. I know many who have loved it. I've read other books by or about people with autism and found them interesting. Curious just never got onto my list, and I have way too many books ahead of it.
