E.g., Hero encounters an immigrant street urchin who is unusually savvy and street-smart. Fast fwd. a few years when Hero's daughter and the street urchin meet in an acting class and develop a relationship that will probably result in matrimony. Bear in mind that this is the Big Apple, not some one-horse town out west.

And then there's hero's current SO who while traveling across the country delivering speeches for women's suffrage, has her life saved by hero's youngest brother whom everyone believes died in the Civil War and who is living incognito and under aliases because of a reputation as a killer.

These examples are from John Jakes' "Lawless" which has received some acclaim. I wonder what unrealistic coincidences will be revealed in the second half of the book.

I find these coincidences to be the rule rather than the exception, and to a significant degree.
