I had to read it in school and didn't like it at all. But maybe I was too young and should give it another chance.

From Dresden on the 50th Anniversary of ‘Slaughterhouse-Five’
Published 50 years ago this month, the book became his first best-seller and made 47-year-old Vonnegut a star. Weird, wise, moral, profane and profoundly human, it remains a countercultural classic and one of the most enduring antiwar novels of all time. Not to mention a salvational act of self-therapy by a man who likely suffered from what would today be recognized as post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD.

I was never forced to read it in school, but discovered it the summer after I graduated college (1991). I fell in love with Vonnegut's writing and characters, and his word view. I then embarked on a journey of reading all of his books in order. A few years ago when he died, I read them all again, and appreciated most of them on even another level, now that I'm middle-aged.

I have not read any of Vonnegut's novel. I guess I should. Looking for a free Kindle copy of Slaughterhouse-Five. I plan to renew my library card so I can check out either a digital or hard copy, but if anyone knows of a free digital download please let me know. I know a lot of old classics are available free (and I am cheap).

I am about 1/3 through Slaughter House Five. Query...... However the writing is excellent.

I read a lot of cheap or free ebooks. A few are very good. Some more are good. And the rest.... Well you get what you pay for. There is usually that quality of excellent writing missing no matter how good the plot is.

And here's something else.

I didn't like the book when I first read it - in my teens - but I'm thinking I should re-read it and give it another chance.
