My dictionary in the book shelf by my chair did not have this word. My other dictionary did, but only one definition. Urban Dictionary had both definitions; the other definition was the one that fit the context.

My Firefox spellcheck recognizes it, and it's in my dictionary, but why did the author choose to use this word? Was he trying to emulate William F. Buckley Jr.?

San Francisco Mountains (Utah).
Hesperus Mountain (Colorado). Hesperus is notable as the Navajo People's Sacred Mountain of the North, Dibé Ntsaa, which marks the northern boundary of the Dinetah, their traditional homeland.
