Best novels I read this year, in no particular order were:

A Ladder to the Sky, by John Boyne
The Heart's Invisible Furies, by John Boyne (had to read that after I liked Ladder so much).
The Great Believers, by Rebecca Makkai

I guess I only have 3. I read more nonfiction and most of my favorites were not novels. The other novels I read were either good, but nothing that blew me away (Crawdads was in that category for me), or disappointing.
