I'm halfway through the first Left Behind book by Tim LaHay and Jerry Jenkins. I think the subject matter is very interesting but I've been so far been disappointed in the first book in terms of the writing itself such as plotting and organization. Does this get better in the later books? I know this series is the best selling in history aside from Harry Potter and that most people in America believe in the prophesies that the authors write about.
Only this summer have I started reading stories about the End Times. It was actually unintended, I started reading books by Joel Rosenberg that were Tom Clancy or Vince Flynn type suspense thrillers but his series gradually became supernatural and I'm surprised that captivated me even more. I found out more and discovered that Rosenberg is an evangelical Christian writer and that so much of his fiction has come true already.
For one thing reading these books are making me reconsider what I believe about the world and faith. Has anyone here read the entire Left Behind series? Is it worth finishing (the other 11 books?) Any input is greatly appreciated

Yes, page turners that is for sure. Dickens, they are not, but well worth an entire read
I made it to the tenth book of the series...I think it's called The Remnant. By then, I just couldn't find the inspiration to read on. I don't know if it was the lack of interest or the plot got too complicated for me. The first few books were really good...mind you, I'm not a huge Christian by any means, but I was intrigued. I would say it's worth it as long as you keep up with the characterization.
I got the theatrical version on CD and really enjoyed them much more than the books as the story seemed to come alive with the different voices and background noises. I was quite saddened when I finished the last one.
I tried to read them, but could not get into them, so got the CD's instead and am so very glad I did.
I'm reading the second book, Tribulation Force, now and I think I'm getting more into the plot. The ending of the first one was very mesmerizing. I guess since its such a long series the entire first book can just be a prequel type thing to the whole story.

As fiction, it's a crapfest. I tried reading 2 of the books when I was stuck on vacation at the beach, having not packed my own books. The writing was terrible, the characters were cardboards, and the plot followed predictable avenues as if the authors were moving the characters around on a chessboard.
Essentially, the people who swoon over the Left Behind series are people who have the same eschatological beliefs as the authors. That's about it. Otherwise, it has no value whatsoever.
