If you want to survive any disaster then you must read; "The Unthinkable" by Amanda Ripley!

Most aircraft crashes are survivable.

Those who died in Hurricane Katrina died because they were; (choose one), black, poor, old, survivors of other hurricanes?

You're more likely to survive a natural disaster if you are; (choose one) white, a "first responder", a resident of a "rich" country, live in a suburb?

You're more likely to survive a (man-made or natural) disaster if you (choose one), live in a city where all "first responders" have Haz-Mat suits, your fire department has rescue dogs, your city/state got LOTS of money from the Department of Homeland Security, you have a plan on how to evacuate your office building and home?

Some of the things in here I had heard before (military training) or read about, but despite having lived in an active earthquake zone for a number of years, and a VERY ACTIVE hurricane zone for 25 years, I NEVER had a "plan" before.

I DO NOW. Even though I dont' live close to either zone any more.
