Maaaaaaaaaaaany years ago I checked out a book from the library, but for some reason never got very far. It was a science fiction novel about cats (not the new series that is out, this was a long time ago), told from the perspective of the cats on an alien planet where humans had recently landed. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Back in the day when I was a lad just starting to read science fiction, I read Breed to Come (1972) by Andre Norton. I read it when I was in elementary or junior high school in the early 80's. Your description has me thinking that this could be the book you're looking for.
