I just finished "The Match" by Mark Frost and I recommend it, even if you don't know much about or follow golf.
In 1956 car dealer Eddie Lowery bet his friend and fellow millionaire that two of his car salesman could beat any two golfers, including professionals in a match. He made the bet with Byron Nelson (non-golfers may not know this but he was) the greatest golfer ever, sitting at the table.
BTW, Nelson's playing partner would be Ben Hogan. One of the two car salesman was Ken Venturi.
Eddie Lowery was (in real life) the guy who caddied for Francis Ouimet in the 1913 U.S. Open as shown in the movie "The Greatest Game Ever Played".
The story of how these men, this match and the golf course (Cypress Point, Monterey CA) all came to this day is a great story.
If nothing else you'll learn how "Moneterey Jack" cheese got its name.
