Not surprising, really. Death has replaced sexuallity as the "new" pornograghy
in our society. Think about it. How many euphamisms are there for saying that someone is dead? Passed on. Gone to her reward. Gone to heaven (or maybe burning in h***?). With the angels now. No longer with us. Etcetera.
As a society we are obsessed with anti-aging products from hair dyes to surgeries; the latest psuedo-scientific food trends, excessive exercising, avoidance of daylight/sunshine, anti-hunting,anti-smoking, anti alcohol/drugs, anti-transfat, and so on.
(Not advocating pro or con here. I assume adults can make their own decisions).
Do people think they can escape death if they relegate it to literature? Make death less real? That death won"t "happen" to them? Someone's in for a big surprise.
Once death was an accepted and usual occurance in life but we have become more industrialized and moved farther away from the basic realities of life. And new myths are created by people without that basic understanding.
