I trade my used or books I have already read to paperbackswap.com and yes you have to pay shipping but it is fun to trade books back and forth and some I dont trade anymore cause there are some I dont want to part with . it is fun though .
I'm going to dig out my "to go" books and organize them. Then I am going to list them on Freecycle. Hopefully someone who lives near me will want them and come get 'em.
Lots of people on Freecycle ask for and offer books.
When we are in WA, we tend to trade in our books at the used book stores, usually Half Price Books. If we are donating, we give to the local library. If they cannot use the particular book, for whatever reason, they will sell them in their Friends of Library book sales (earning needed funds to operate).
If your library doesn't want them, depending on the type of book, you could give them to shelters, hospitals, or anyplace else where there are people that read.
