I read it in high school and I can't remember the name of it. It would have been written in the 50's or 60's during the cold war. For some reason I was thinking the author's first name was Pat...but I could be way off base. Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about?

It was basically a story of survival after a nuclear attack and it was set in and around Central Florida.

CRS disease has set in....urgh!

Are you maybe thinking of the book "On the Beach," by Nevil Shute? It's set in Austrailia (near the beach), in the '50s or 60's. There's been a nuclear war and there is now everyone is dead in the northern hemisphere. The radioactive fallout is moving south, and the book covers the months leading up to their end.
