Has anyone read anything by Ian McEwan?! He is a FANTASTIC author, brilliant really. I just finished, "On Chesil Beach," and "Atonement," is one of my favorite books. Anyone else?

I've read Atonement, SaturdayU] and Amsterdam[/u]. I have Chesil Beach and The Innocents, but haven't started yet. If you like McEwan, you might like Netherlands by Joseph O'Neill. I find him to be a brilliant novelist as is McEwan. So many books, so little time.

I've only read Atonement but I read it twice - I LOVED it. I also got it into our book club list for this past year, so I made 15 of my dearest friends read it too.

I need to read more by him.

I can see where people would say it was torture - about half my book club was like, "Oh my GOD, make him STOP with the detail and the on and on and on..." Me personally? I like a 500-800 page book stuffed with all kinds of details from the clothes people were wearing to the paint on the wall to the flowers in the garden!

LindaGrace I completely agree! I loved Atonement, as I thought it was brilliant. Was a little confused throughout, but I read up on it and it all clicked together. I recommend On Chesil Beach, VERY short, and VERY good. dez181- im sorry to hear you didn't like it! did you see the movie?

I read The Atonement as well as Saturday and enjoyed both.
They are very *dense* books (esp Atonement.)
Pretty much the opposite of The Da Vinci Code.
Rather than just rushing through, you have to sort of be in the mood for really digesting words, phrases, meanings and foreshadowing.

Yeah, I second that... I heard so much about it, thought I would like it...just kept waiting to *get* it, but it never happened...

Doubt I'll be reading more of him.

I love Ian McEwan. Loved Saturday and Atonement. Chesil Beach was just OK though, kind of a weird premise.

I don't "get" what there is to "get" about Atonement. Do you have specific questions? Or you just didn't get his writing style? (Trying to understand!)

I'm going to get Saturday and On Chesil Beach from the library. Thanks for the recs, ctcoldplay!
