Thanks for all the wonderful recommendations--I settled, thus far, on 3 of her favourite library books, a fourth out of print and madly selling for $60.00.

But I have lots more to buy over the days and years ago.

I also end up crying during Love You Forever....one that hasn't been mentioned that's a favorite in our house is The Napping House by Don & Audrey Wood....they also have one out called Little Penguin's Tale (I think it's still in print!)....their illustrations are wonderful!

I haven't read the other replies, but my all-time fave is Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak.

I love The Napping House. Caps for Sale is another good call, Gizmo, as is Give A Mouse A Cookie.
Kids love repetitive stores like that; it is both fun and good for language acquisition.

Last month I did a Top 10 list at our school, got all the teachers' favorites, it was so much fun! And checking them all out, I found some new favorites

An oldie but goodie, though probably a bit violent for today's kiddies

I loved the Madeline books when I was a child and have been collecting them (my mother sent mine to my younger cousins...thanks mom!). I've since met the grandson of the author so I'd really like to get them all and perhaps have his brother (the grandson continuing the Madeline series) sign them for me.
