This book, Please Stop Laughing at Me, by Jodee Blanco has moved to the top of my worst book ever list! I picked it up at Target recently as my son suffered some bullying in middle school and I thought it might be a helpful narrative. I was wrong - so wrong. The author of this self-help autobiography came across as incredibly conceited and unrealistic in her recollections of dealing with bullies during her high school years. The entire book was so over the top - she was the kindest, smartest, most loving student in the school and the other students were mean, cruel, heartless... So very black and white.
I would be very disappointed if teachers and principals were reading or recommending this book as a strategy to help combat bullying in schools. There are no helpful hints or words of wisdom in this relentless tale of incredulous self-pity.
