Normally I don't read this type of book but I sometimes catch his show and always thought he was a hoot on Drew Carey. Man, I knew he had a sketchy background, but he was hitting every drug around, to help cut down on his drinking, I knew he was a recovering alcoholic.

The book starts out with his gig hosting the White House Correspondent's Dinner in 2008 and goes back to his childhood in Scotland. He has a funny way of writing, self-deprecating and amusing. And he doesn't pull any punches about what a complete Moderator cut: language he was.

Check it out at your library, or if he's in your town on his book tour go see him. I think he's in Denver this Saturday and since I'll be down there I may go by.

I actually just took this out Saturday.

I skimmed through it so far. I saw him on tv (maybe on Larry King?) and thought I would read his book if I came across it. He was a bit of a twit on The Drew Carey Show but it was not until I lived in the UK did I realize he was SCOTTISH, not English. (He was on a talk show over there).

My parents are European and that whole self-deprecating, not bragging thing is very European. My parents somehow manage to couple humble and all that with still having pride.
When I'm self-deprecating and act like my parents I get that US California self-help self-involved no humour - "why do you put yourself down like that?"

I think he has a great deal of natural comedic talent, and did not know he had an autobiography out. I'll keep an eye out for it.

If I still lived in Denver I'd go see him. Maybe I will check out his bio.
I enjoy authors who weave humor into their insight into the human condition.
LOVED his bit here on the deification of youth.
